Asking for HELP with laptop/WiFi possibilities ?

I have a laptop and can only get high speed internet service from Hughes due to my location. Please, in non-technical terms (from a tech geek to one who's ignorant of technology) do I get internet access at the best price. I can leave my home if I need to. I want to be able to use the internet at home or away. Can you tell me exactly what I should do/use and how to do it? Side note: I have a Blackberry with internet included.. I use it but screen is small, takes a long time to load, many files are too large to load at all, and sometimes can't get at all. (Seems as though it works the worst at night and when cloudy.) I tried dial-up about a year ago but would lose the connection (which was almost impossible to get in the first place) in fewer than three seconds. Was that due to my location, low battery, provider???). I heard of someone who uses his Blackberry for a modem. What is a modem. Thank you in advance for your expertise.
