What is the polite thing to do ?

My husband and I were invited to dinner at a friend’s house so I brought a .dessert It was a cake By Paula Deen called "Better than yes". My husband told me not to tell his friend it was a Paula Deen recipe because he dislikes Paula. Well after dinner I cut the cake and served it to everyone. After my husband’s friend was done eating 3 pieces I told him it was a Paula Deen recipe. He was mad he said he wasn’t eating anymore. His wife started laughing I felt bad cause I didn’t know he hated her just that he disliked her. We live in Savannah Georgia where Paula has her restaurants and home. Well are friends bumped into Paula and her husband on one of the casino boats and she didn’t have a southern ascent and was cursing like a sailor. After a few hours they walked up to her and asked if she was Paula Deen she sudenly had a thick southern draw.They say she is a fake and a fraud. Anyways I was wondering should I have left the cake at there house instead of bringing it home?
