I cant Watch my Burn Disks On my DVD player?

i Have windows vista and i downloaded a movie from Ares and i just went any bought some Memorex DVD+R and i burned the movie useing windows media player it burned, then i went to put it in my DVD player and it wont play...on my house Dvd player not my computer...how can i make that work so that i can burn dvds and watch them on the tv....is there a program to download or do i have to change setting please help!
